Weekly therapy is not always convenient for busy people. Some of us seek deep, rapid and lasting transformation now, which is why many people are turning to intensive formats.
Brainspotting is a powerful therapeutic approach that utilizes relevant eye position with somatic awareness to access and release the effects of trauma/adversity to facilitate deep, rapid healing on a subconscious level.
You enjoy regular therapy with an existing therapist and have difficulty getting beyond a particular issue or trauma.
You have had enough of struggling with a long-term issue that has not resolved with regular therapy.
You don't have months or years to be free from the effects of past traumas.
It is natural for humans experiencing life stressors, trauma, or adversity to find themselves overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Many people have carried symptoms like anxiety, depression, nightmares, avoidance, alertness, difficulty sleeping, isolation, bitterness or trouble trusting for years. These patterns can make daily life discouraging and leave you questioning if anything will truly help.
My clients want transformation to their next best level, in business, work, sports, creative performance, relationships and self-regulation.
Many are determined to stop the intergenerational cycle of trauma, to move beyond surviving and start truly living. They want freedom from power struggles, emotional overwhelm, stalled progress, and the feeling that they’re “not good enough,” so they can create deeper connections and a life that feels meaningful and stable.
The Brainspotting Intensive has been life changing for me. I am truly grateful for the amazing gift Rachel has provided me through this Intensive and excited for the new goals I will be able to achieve in the future because of the healing that Rachel provided.

Within a Brainspotting session, we can work to dislodge stuck survival energy for healing or to enhance growth or performance in personal or professional life.
Within a session focused on healing, you will choose an issue to work on. I will help you to locate the place in the body in which the issue is expressing itself, find a relevant Brainspot (a place to focus your gaze) and invite you to mindfully process (by simply observing the thoughts, emotions and physical sensations that arise).
The place in the body will be where you feel physical sensation arise as you think about the issue (for example an ache in the heart area, tension in the head or nausea in the stomach). The Brainspot can be found using a pointer or through noticing a Gazespot (a place where your eyes naturally gravitate when you are activated around the issue).
Many people experience connecting dots, revelations, renewed perspective, reduced distress, enhanced confidence and a more regulated nervous system—both during the Intensive and over the following weeks as integration continues. Unlike the results of talk therapy, which often wane with time, gains made with Brainspotting last, as they happen at a deep, physiological level.
Insight, Relief & Ongoing Integration
Through Brainspotting, you will identify, process and release deeply stored neurophysiological and emotional trauma, negative self-beliefs and long-standing behavioral patterns. The transformation happens at a deep, subconscious level that talk therapy cannot reach.
Processing Trauma at the Brain-Body Level
Before your Intensive begins, you’ll complete an Intake and Treatment Plan that explores your personal history, trauma history, limiting self-beliefs, symptoms, positive resources, and the desired states of being you want to cultivate.
Comprehensive Intake & Treatment Planning
If these shifts resonate with what you’re hoping for, we can explore how an intensive might support your growth. A brief consult is the best way to talk through your needs and map out what could be possible.
This can manifest in smoother interactions with others. Those with life-long histories of developmental trauma sometimes say it feels, “weird,” as they begin to experience safety or peace for the first time.
Clients often feel more confident and grounded as limiting beliefs begin to dissolve and as previously little traveled positive neural pathways are strengthened.
A more regulated nervous system, allowing clients to feel calmer, clearer, and more centered in daily life.
As processing unfolds, clients describe a renewed perspective—greater clarity, a shift in how they see themselves and their circumstances, and a sense of possibility that may have felt out of reach before.
Brainspotting frequently leads to powerful revelations and insights that arise organically as the brain and body process trauma and stored emotional material. These revelations create space for new understanding and healing.
Clients often experience meaningful “connecting of dots”—linking past experiences, emotions, and patterns in a way that brings clarity and makes sense of long-standing struggles.
Each client brings their own history and goals to this work, so results naturally differ. Still, these are some of the most common changes clients tend to notice after a Brainspotting Intensive.

In Brainspotting, we embrace the uncertainty principle. The uncertainty principle is the idea that I as the therapist must remain constantly uncertain around what needs to happen next for you in your session. Your nervous system is infinitely complex and brilliant, as it includes quadrillions of synaptic connections (connections between nerve cells) – more than the stars in the sky. For this reason, I trust your nervous system to tell me what needs to happen next in any given session. David Grand likens this to, “staying in the tail of the comet.” The idea is that you are the head of the comet, and I stay in the tail in order to foster deep, body-based healing.
The risks of Brainspotting are similar to those of therapy in general. You may encounter difficult or uncomfortable feelings during treatment or decide to make changes in your life. Brainspotting is incredibly effective at accessing and releasing the effects of adversity that appear to be stored in the brain-body system. It can be likened to clearing out clogged drain pipes – sometimes there is discomfort and yucky stuff that comes to the surface before the drain is washed out and able to function more smoothly.
Yes, Brainspotting works brilliantly with kids. Generally speaking, the younger the person the more efficiently Brainspotting can work to inspire healing and growth. This is likely because young people have spent fewer years cultivating their self-image, belief system and worldview. It is therefore easier to access the young subcortical brain. I often blend Brainspotting with Attachment and Behavioral work with families, to foster healing on a deep, body-based level for the individual and to enhance goodness of fit with the social environment, to maximize results.
The most important considerations in preparing for an Intensive are carving out the time needed for the Intensive and preferably taking a day off from work, school or other heavy endeavors the day after the Intensive. Being hydrated before, during and after an Intensive is ideal. Being well-rested before an Intensive is not necessary and in fact, being a little tired can make it easier to access the subcortex of the brain as the neocortex (the thinking brain) is less alert. Getting good nutrition and leaving time and space for rest, self-reflection and relaxation after the Intensive are strongly recommended.
Regular therapy is great for people who have a consistent schedule and who seek gradual change over time. Additionally, many of us with Attachment wounding find the consistency of meeting regularly with a therapist to be comforting. Intensives are a great fit for people who are too busy for weekly therapy or who want deep, rapid transformation. It can also be great for those who do not live in, but visit, California. For some, regular therapy augmented with a Brainspotting Intensive to get through issues that are difficult to resolve is a great combination.
I believe Brainspotting is more effective as it is more dynamic and flexible. EMDR has more evidence to support its efficacy, because it’s been around for 45+ years (as opposed to 12+ years) and because it’s highly protocol-based (and therefore easier to study). However, Brainspotting intentionally rejects protocols to be more customizable to your unique needs and to harness the power of the uncertainty principle. The body of evidence supporting its efficacy is growing. Studies can be accessed here: https://brainspotting.com/about-brainspotting/research-and-case-studies/
