Brainspotting is a therapeutic approach that provides access to the brain and body’s natural ability to heal. Our brains are constantly scanning themselves and our bodies for homeostasis (our overall system being in balance). When it finds we are out of balance somewhere, different things happen to provide counter-weight to bring the system back into balance. Sometimes that counter-weight can manifest as anxiety, depression or anger. There are many reasons that a person’s system may become out of balance, including biological, environmental and experiential elements. Brainspotting accesses areas that are out of balance through visual areas of relevance. Gazing in these areas helps to process and release areas of imbalance, so that the brain and body system return to homeostasis. Brainspotting is helpful in treating a wide range of mental health challenges, including trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and more.
